Johnny Yong™ X-mas

I decided that because we are now in the X-mas season, that I would put up a photo that resembled just that. Not too much to explain on this one, I just did a little editing and added some text, but that's about it.
I like it =]

I chose the artist Minor White; An artist who tends to focus on the simplistic complexity of every day things throughout nature.
I was drawn to this photo because of the way the light shines across the window sill, creating an effect that makes it seem as though there is another essence there. What I enjoy is the fact that White has the ability to take something so simple as a light reflection and turn it into something so much bigger that controls the picture by drawing your eyes to it.
When it comes to telling you what the artist means by this shot, I have no idea. The picture itself tells something unexplained, and is a story in itself; without words.

These shots were based around the "current event" assignment which was to portray a message of one of the California propositions.
I chose Proposition 7 and 10. These props were meant to increase the amount of "green energy" used throughout California.
I decided that my younger sister portray the "green energy" and be shown in a position of control on top of something industrial; one of these industrial items happens to be right outside my door, the train tracks. These tracks run right through a valley that used to be full of wildlife, but has recently seen a drop in population due to the construction of the railroad. This picture expresses the feeling that "going green" will create a more suitable life style for everything, not just humans.
I took these shots right outside my house will a Kodak Digital camera. Getting the message i wanted to get across was very difficult at first, and I couldn't figure out how I could get my little sister to show dominance over an industrail railroad. After
a couple shots, I decided for her to sit on the tracks, and that's where this shot came from. Also in deeper analysis of the photo, you can see my sister's reflection inside the track, showing her becoming the tracks. Go green. =)

This most recent assignment was to create a CD cover with three of our own B&W shots and then however much special graphics we wanted to add.
The ideas I had for the cover changed almost everyday, due to the fact that I was able to take the shots I took and apply them to any background or idea. I had them in a dark background, in a forest, i even had one in the sky, but I liked my final idea of stepping into color.
The developing stage of this project threw me for an unexpected twist. I guess something went wrong, and i lost about 3 of my shots. Luckily, my favorite shots were saved, so I got lucky. This time.
Printing was a snap, and overall I had a great time with this project! Enjoy! ^_^

Photoshoot 1

Model: Megan Ochoa (Taken: 9/22/08)

This is was my first time behind the camera. I used a simple Black and White format for my pictures, with a simple white background for my model. It was a completely new experience being the one behind the camera and not in front of it. I really enjoyed the change, finally being in control and being able to call all of the shots with complete authority over the shoot. Sadly enough, I was one of the people who didn't bother to focus the camera (yay bad eye sight), and my picture came out blurry. But my model was beautiful, so it all works out!
The most frustrating of the entire experience in my opinion was printing the actual picture; I got really confused with the timing of the light exposure and the way to time all the chemicals to develop the photos. In the end though, I was able to successfully print and develop my not so successful picture to its perfect blur of perfection. = )
